World Series Hero Shane Victorino to Throw First Pitch Before NLDS Game 3

Aloha, Philadelphia!

The Philadelphia Phillies will host postseason baseball for the first time in 11-years on Friday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. Before Phillies starter Aaron Nola toes the rubber, the 42,792-plus raging fans will be greeted by an old friend.

2008 World Series champion Shane Victorino will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before NLDS Game 3.

The Flyin’ Hawaiian knows a thing or two about postseason moments.

Aaron Nola took a perfect game into the seventh inning helping propel the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Houston Astros. The win gives the Phillies their first playoff berth since the 2011 season.

A Postseason Berth Looms for the Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are—hopefully—bound for a destination not visited since October 7, 2011. The MLB postseason looms for the Phillies who enter the final series of the regular season with a magic number of one.

If the Phillies want to earn their postseason berth on the field they will have to beat baseball’s best, the 104-win Houston Astros.

The task won’t be easy. The Phillies are set to face Lance McCullers, AL Cy Young candidate Justin Verlander, and Framber Valdez. That’s a 2.38 ERA, a 1.80 ERA, and a 2.89 ERA, respectively. That’s the toughest three-game stretch for the Phillies this season.

And don’t expect the Astros to go easy just because they’re playing out the season and preparing for the ALDS.

Bryce Harper Takes BP, Timetable for His Return Revealed

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Bryce Harper took to Instagram to update fans on his status. Needless to say, Phillies fans will be fired up over the update.

Harper taking outdoor batting practice is the first step in his eventual return to the lineup. If all goes well, Harper will progress to “high velocity” hitting in the indoor cage, and then a minor league rehabilitation assignment. The target date for his return is “September-ish” according to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury.
