Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper will not start the 2023 regular season on Major League Baseball’s 60-day injured list, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told Sports Radio 94WIP on Tuesday. “We’re going to keep our options open,” the Phils’ president added, leaving the possibility of a Harper return before June looking like a possibility.

Well, that’s quite an exciting and unexpected development as the Phillies time in Clearwater comes to a close.

The Philadelphia Phillies are expecting All-Star Bryce Harper to report to Spring Training on Wednesday.

Harper is currently rehabbing from late-November Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow.  The 30-year old was forced to play the majority of the season as the Phils’ designated hitter after injuring his elbow last Spring.  Despite the elbow injury –and a subsequent trip to the DL with a broken hand– Harper slashed .286/.364/.514 with 18 HR, 65 RBI, and a .877 OPS helping propel the Phillies to the National League pennant.

Bryce is Back! Bryce Harper Returns to the Phillies Lineup

The wait is finally over! Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Bryce Harper is returning to the Phillies lineup tonight. He will bat fourth and be the designated hitter.

The team made the move official earlier today.

Harper’s return to the lineup comes a few days earlier than the team expected.

Harper has been out of the lineup since breaking his thumb on June 25 in San Diego.  Prior to the injury, the 2022 NL All-Star was hitting .318 with 15 homers, 48 RBIs, and a .919 OPS.  The Phillies are 31-20 without Harper in the lineup.  The Phils’ currently +2.0 games of the Padres for the second NL Wild Card spot.

Thomson: Bryce Harper Returning to the Phillies Lineup on Friday

The Philadelphia Phillies are getting slugger Bryce Harper back sooner than expected.  Harper will be activated on Friday for the Phillies’ series against Pittsburgh.

Harper, who has been out of the Phillies lineup since June 25, has been rehabbing his broken thumb with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  The original plan was for the slugger to rehab through Saturday’s game and evaluate the situation on Sunday.  No one, not even Harper, could foresee the speed at which Harper would reacclimate himself to live pitching.

Bryce Harper Clubs Two Doubles, Game Winner for Lehigh Valley

It was another big night in the Lehigh Valley for rehabbing Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper.

Harper went 3-for-5 with two doubles, including a walk-off game winner, and two RBIs for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Through two rehab games, Harper is slashing .625/.700/1.625 with two homers, two doubles, and six RBIs.

Harper is expected to rehab with the ‘Pigs through the weekend but given his seeming lack of “rust” will that change the timeline?

Simple answer, maybe. The ball is in Harper’s court.

Phillies Roster Moves: Brandon Marsh to the IL, Bradley Zimmer Claimed Off Waivers

The Philadelphia Phillies made a series of roster moves on Thursday to address the suddenly dire outfield situation.

First, outfielder Brandon Marsh has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left ankle.  In a corresponding move, designated hitter Bryce Harper has been placed on the 60-day injured list.  In a corresponding move to the corresponding move, the Phillies claimed outfielder Bradley Zimmer off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Let’s start with Harper.

His move to the 60-day IL is simply a housekeeping measure.  Harper, who has been out of the lineup since late June with a broken thumb, is eligible to return to the Phillies next week.  The reigning NL MVP took batting practice earlier this week for the first time since having thumb surgery.  Harper is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment in the next few days and possibly return by next week or early the following week.
