Zach Eflin is now officially a former Philadelphia Phillie. The 28-year old righty has inked a 3-year/$40MM deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, the richest in Tampa’s history. The deal is pending a physical.
The deal will pay Eflin $11MM in 2023 & 2024 and balloon to $18MM in 2025.
Eflin was originally drafted 33rd overall by San Diego in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Paul J. Hagerty (Oviedo, FL) High School. He was traded twice in two-days, from San Diego to Los Angeles and from Los Angeles to the Phillies in exchange for Jimmy Rollins and cash considerations.
He spent 2016-2022 as part of the Phillies rotation and later the bullpen. Eflin amassed a 36-45 record with a 4.49 ERA during his time in red pinstripes. He also appeared in 10-games in the 2022 Postseason for the Phils with no wins/losses and a 3.38 ERA.
