Houston Astros Sweep the New York Yankees, Will Face the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic

The Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees 6-5 to complete a four-game sweep and advance to the World Series. Houston will take on the Philadelphia Phillies, who dispatched the San Diego Padres 4-1 in the NLCS.

Houston will be making their fourth World Series appearence in the past six seasons. The Astros have lost their last two World Series appearences -2019 and 2021, respectively- to NL East teams, the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves. The ‘Stros went 106-56 during the 2022 MLB regular season and are 7-0 in the 2022 MLB Postseason having swept the Seattle Mariners and the Yankees.

Houston and Philadelphia faced off for the first, and only, time during the regular season earlier in October. The Astros took two-of-three games from the Phillies, however both teams treated the final two games of the series as glorified Spring Training games. In the only game of conseuquence the pair played, the Phillies shout out the Astros 3-0 on the back of 6.2 scoreless innings from Aaron Nola. That Phillies win clinched a postseason berth.

World Series Game 1 will take place on Friday, October 28 from Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX. First pitch is set for 8:03 PM on Fox.
