The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard from the Los Angeles Angels. The Phillies have sent OF Mickey Moniak and prospect Jadiel Sánchez to LA to complete the deal.
Syndergaard is 5-8 with a 3.83 ERA, 64 Ks, and a 1.213 WHIP this season. Scouts have raved about “Thor’s” new approach to pitching two-years removed from Tommy John surgery. Syndergaard signed a one-year, $21 million “prove it” deal with the Halos before the season.
As for the players the Phillies traded away.
Moniak, the first overall pick 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft, has never been able to figure it out in Philadelphia. For his career, Moniak is slashing .129/.214/.172 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs.
Sánchez, the Phils’ 12th round pick in 2019, had never played above Low-A Clearwater. The 21-year old outfielder has a career .244 BA with 9 HRs, 33 RBIs, and a .699 OPS in 77 MiLB games.
