The Athletic’s Jayson Stark is reporting the Philadelphia Phillies have been targeting starting pitching ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline. Specifically, the Phillies are looking for a playoff-caliber starter.
The Phillies currently have a one-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for the final NL Wild Card spot. And Red October is in sight for the first time in over a decade.
So, while the Phillies are “in” on a starter, they’re also reportedly not willing to include any top prospects.
The consensus is the Phillies will not be able to make any significant moves without including at least one of their top prospects.
